Tyzor® Organic Titanates & Zirconates
There are dozens of Tyzor organic titanates and zirconates ranging
from highly reactive esters to very stable chelates. Many
are suitable for solvent-based formulations, others are suitable
for water-based formulations, and many are suitable for both.
In general, Tyzor titanates and zirconates are low in toxicity.
They are highly efficient crosslinkers and catalysts that produce
high yields of end products at relatively low concentrations under
mild reaction conditions with a minimum of undesirable by-products.
Many are efficient, thermally stable water scavengers.
Crosslinking
A few of the more common crosslinking applications include cure-rate
promoters in sealants, inks and coatings, and gelling agents in
solvent- and water-borne carbohydrate systems such as printing inks,
oil-field fracturing fluids and thixotropic paints.
Catalysis
Tyzor catalysts also can act as Lewis acids that optimize
product properties and processes by catalyzing esterification, transesterification
and polymerization reactions. Their ability to increase productivity
and improve product quality at lower loadings makes them excellent,
non-toxic alternatives to many common catalysts.
Adhesion Promotion
Tyzor organic titanates and zirconates are highly reactive
adhesion promoters that form strong bonds between inorganic and
organic substrates and polymers, coatings, or inks. Their
unique ability to bond low-reactive substrates makes them
excellent choices for challenging applications involving
dissimilar surfaces.
Surface Modification/Metal Oxide FormationTyzor organic
titanates and zirconates can provide the titanium or zirconium
dioxide required to produce mixed metal oxides and surface
modifiers. When used in this way they form inorganic
polymeric films that modify the surface of glass, metals or
other substrates for corrosion protection, scratch resistance,
enhanced reflectivity or iridescent effects.
